Congratulations! Now that you’re living, here are a few tips from someone who’s been doing it, with partial success, for more than 55 years | Fiction | Fresh Soup
That about sums it up, the whole thing. But strangely, it doesn't seem as depressing when Mr. Keret puts life in these terms. Makes it seem as if a person could really deal with it! Thanks!
My God, Etgar, your ability to get to the bottom of it all and refine the essence of life. So short (your story and life as well) and so accurate & powerful. Respect!
I can't believe I am going to say this. I should not. I'm not a militant feminist. In the US Eighty-Five percent of obstetricians are women. In Israel it could be more or less. Forty years ago I would not have even noticed that the first line of this story refers to a man in a white coat catching a baby. Now I notice. When Etgar (and I) were born, it probably was a man. Today though it is likely a woman, or at the very least, a person.
Etger Keret, I don’t think I’ve ever read a story by you that hasn’t made me smile. You are, by far, my favorite writer and I’m so glad I was able to see you in person at a reading in London some years ago. You sense the whimsy of life and share it with those of us who view the world through darker lenses. Your writing is unpretentious, accessible, and fun. I’m so happy to have found you on Substack.🥰

Simple. Perfect.
How was the story? Fine, thanks!

I love it!
For most, when you become a parent caring is a life sentence, no-matter-what. It's a hard but good way to live a life.
