Delighted to discover that Liberation invites amazing (at least one!) authors to collaborate on a yearly edition. Love the idea. Almost proud to be French.
After the introductory paragraph, I was honestly expecting a quirky little story about someone who can change the weather for an hour a day. At first he thinks it’s kind of lame, then ends up saving someone's life with a surprise thunderstorm or well-timed breeze and finally feels much better about it. Maybe even lives happily ever after.
I empathize with the imperative to not "leave home without ... suitable protest gear," but what I keep asking my sane friends is — "What's the plan of action?" How about a column to solicit readers' best ideas for signs (or protest gear), or practical acts of resistance?
I’m starting to worry if my lineage in America goes back far enough for me to not get picked off the street and sent to a foreign prison. All my grandparents came here in steerage to escape the Cossacks. Will I have to go back?!
Sadly there is no silver lining in this weather report. It is actually worse. These fascists are not just planning to deport foreigners. They will deport domestics as well - protestors, intellectuals, LBGTQ, are in danger and this is just the beginning… meanwhile most people are more focused on the financial pages (also in the back of the paper) and wish they could get the insider tips.
Fantastic Etgar! I love it! I especially love pieces where you cite your mother (even if it’s not your actual mother, but a fictional one). She sounds like she was a fab person.
Excellent as always, dear Etgar!

Depressing but oh so accurate! Thank you for your sharp views on what we are going through!
Oh no.

As always, a unique take on the world (of insanity). ❤️
This is the art of a powerful short story. Toda Etgar 🙏

It would be great if you could provide that.
I’ll try and write one. It will be an obscure pragmatic plan, I warn in advance.
That was meant for Drew. 😉
Cloudy with a downpour of injustice.

See the comment about “homegrowns”.

That's who you are worried about? Not Sisi, Erdogan or the Ayattollahs? Get real.
Worry about them all. Do something to oppose those you can.
Worry about what you need to worry about but while doing that, don’t forget to take an umbrella.
